The Modviewsor represents the evolution in architectural acoustics toward aperiodic sequencing of asymmetrical shapes . The Modviewsor is is designed to be used where views through the unit are desired. The surface of the Modviewsor is designed to provide an optimum sound field through mid and high frequency diffusion while the sturdy, acrylic wall construction of the unit limits the amount of sound energy that is removed by absorption.


The Modviewsor is available in a wide variety of finishes, including clear, translucent and varying levels of opacity. See some of the options displayed under the Finishes tab below.


The Modviewsor is dimensionally designed to work with a standard, 15/16″ reinforced T-Bar grid. More often, it is mounted into a wall or ceiling opening like a window with appropriate blocking and trim. See details below under the Drawings tab.

To minimize the lobing inherent in number theory sound diffuser designs, which compromises the uniformity of the scattering, and simultaneously provide a light transmitting solution, RPG developed the Modviewsor. The computer optimized Modviewsor offers significantly better performance than its predecessor, the Diviewsor, and in a shallower profile. Where the performance difference advances further is when multiple units are installed in an array. An optimized, modulated sequence of an array can take advantage of the aperiodic, asymmetric shape of the Modviewsor to minimize lobing effects that are caused by symmetrical and periodic shapes. In contrast to a Diviewsor periodic array, a Modviewsor aperiodic array is formed by following the prescription of an optimal binary sequence, which indicates when to use the asymmetric base shape (zero) or the rotated unit (one). The Modviewsor is available in clear, translucent, tinted and higher opacity acrylic surfaces. It is sized to fit into a standard, reinforced T-Bar grid; more often, it is framed into a wall or ceiling in a fashion similar to mounting a glass panel.


Interfering reflections that degrade speech intelligibility, gain before feedback, and music quality can be controlled by absorption and/or diffusion. When absorption alone is used to control reflections it creates “dead” sounding spaces that lack the benefit of late order, high frequency reflections which can greatly enhance the acoustic performance of a space. When performance spaces require glass surfaces for viewing, day lighting or special lighting effects, conventional high opacity materials that most diffusers are made out of are not plausible solutions.


To solve this problem, RPG developed a new light transmitting, optimized sound diffuser called the Modviewsor. The Modviewsor embodies two patents; Shape Optimization and Aperiodic Modulation of a Single Asymmetric Base Shape. The optimized, asymmetric base shape of the Modviewsor consists of 7 full wells and two zero-depth, half wells on either end. This optimized asymmetric surface is now capable of being arrayed in an aperiodic manner, using optimal binary sequences. This offers a significant performance advance over conventional designs.
