QRD 734 F
Overview
The QRD® 734F is a 1-dimensional sound diffuser developed to expand the product line anchored originally by the classic QRD® 734 – the first product of its kind offered on the market. With a patented folded well design, the QRD® 734F extends the diffusion bandwidth into the lower mid range frequencies in only 4” depth where other diffuser designs would require at least 8”. The natural wood construction of the unit limits the amount of sound energy that is removed by absorption while the diffusion performance extends over 4 octaves.
Finish
The QRD® 734F is available in a wide variety of finishes, including wood veneer, laminates, melamine coatings and painted surfaces.
Installation
The QRD® 734F is flush or cavity mounted to walls and ceilings with provided blocking.

QRD 734 F Wood Sound Diffuser

The phase grating surface of the QRD 734 is designed to provide a more uniform sound field through mid and high frequency diffusion while the natural wood construction of the unit limits the amount of sound energy that is removed by absorption. It has become a classic shape in architectural acoustics; from its birth in 1987 it can now be found in church, theater and recording studio spaces all over the world. Its wide bandwidth, low cost, and broad selection of finishes also make it a logical choice for music education facilities, auditoriums and performing arts facilities.
The QRD 734 is available in a wide variety of finishes, including wood veneer, laminates, melamine coatings and painted surfaces. It is designed to fit into a standard, reinforced T-Bar grid; more often, it is flush mounted to a wall or ceiling with the included mounting cleat.
Problem
Interfering reflections that degrade speech intelligibility and music quality can be controlled by absorption and diffusion. Since commercial surfaces that provided uniform diffusion over a wide frequency range and for all angles of incidence were not available, absorption was used solely to control reflections. This approach creates “dead” spaces.
Solution
In 1983,RPG® introduced the first commercial QRD® Diffusor, based on mathematical number theory. Now a predictable diffusive surface treatment is readily available.
